Toshiba, Gateway laptops target Netbooks

The forecast for Netbooks doesn’t really look good as the tablets are fast taking over and budget laptops seem more attractive with a price of $400 for better graphics performance and faster processors. Netbooks got really popular over the past few years because they were portable and really inexpensive. Used didn’t mind the laggy graphics, multitasking problems and cramped keyboards on the Netbooks because they were inexpensive and travel friendly.

However, the new mobile processing platforms like Intel Sandy Bridge and AMD Fusion now have more power at reduced prices and they are threatening the market of Netbooks by attempting to reshape the industry.

For instance, both Toshiba and Gateway have laptops that start at under $400 and are equipped with AMD Fusion chips, big 15.6 inch displays, support for high-end graphics and other goodies of the conventional laptops like full sized keyboards.

Gateway announced 3 new NV Series of laptops in Monday. The one with best value for money is NV51B08u which has 15.6 inch Ultrabright HD display, 1 GHz AMD C-50 dual core chip having integrated ATI Radeon HD 6250 graphics, 320 GB hard disk, 3GB RAM of DDR3 and the OS is Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). The price of this system is $399.99 and there are more systems priced at $469.99 and $449.99.
