Samsung Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi – No 3G

Samsung was one of the first makers of Android based premium tablet – the Galaxy tab. It has a very convenient and beautiful seven inch display, Android 2.2 OS, 3G support and Adobe Flash. Galaxy Tab was made to kill the Apple iPad and also cash in on the rising number of Android fans.

However, the first generation Tab wasn’t a big success. One big reason for this was that Samsung couldn’t get Apple like traction with the tablet consumers because there wasn’t a Wi-Fi only version to compete with Wi-Fi only iPad. For taking care of this problem, Samsung is out with 16 GB Tab version without 3G support and the price too is really attractive at $349.

Samsung should have offered this model along with this price in the beginning itself because now, consumers have turned their attention to the Honeycomb or Android 3.0 OS. That said, I still think that Samsung Galaxy Tab is one of the best performing seven inch tablets ever and the low price gives it an advantage over the Dell Streak 7 and BlackBerry PlayBook both of which are priced higher. It also outguns the Nook Color which is a low end competitor.

Android 3.0 tablets are getting really expensive now, Asus Eee Pad Transformer has a price of $399 and I would recommend a Honeycomb tablet if you are looking for such a device. The earlier version is a bit outdated. The display of Samsung Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi is glossy and really strong due to the protective Corning Gorilla glass layer. The screen has a resolution of 1,024×600 pixels resolution which is as good as the iPad 2 but the pixel density is tighter because of the smaller screen. There is multitouch capactive technology used which makes the screen as good as that of the iPad.

Above the Samsung Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi display, there is 1.3 megapixel front facing camera which is good for video chatting. There is something called Qik Plus application included. The bottom panel has Android buttons for search, back, home and menu. The bottom edge has dock connector and a built-in speaker pair. Dock connector here can work with power brick and USB connector. You can also plug in accessories here like video output adapter and keyboard dock.

On the back of Samsung Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi, there is white smooth plastic surface and close to it, there is three megapixel camera and it comes with flash. The maximum video resolution of this camera is 720×480 pixels with 30 fps or frames per second.
