Asus Eee PC 1215N – Stiff mouse buttons

Asus Eee PC 1215N – Stiff mouse buttons
Asus Eee PC 1215N is a premium Netbook and the chassis is a bit bigger than what you normally get on standard Netbooks. But if you are expecting some extra connections and ports, you will be disappointed. On the bright side, there is 2 GB RAM. The performance of this Netbook is certainly better than competition due to the presence of Intel dual-core Atom processor, Nvidia's Ion GPU and the Optimus graphics switching technology. This is not the first system in the market to have a dual-core Intel Atom processors, but it is certainly the first one to feature the new D525 CPU. We will be soon seeing the Intel Atom 550 processor later. In my lab tests, this Netbook indeed turned out to be faster than other products in the competition. Asus Eee PC 1215N doesn’t come with plenty of options but that is hardly something to complain about in a Netbook. Besides, the performance is better than a standard Netbook. I have seen a couple of Netbooks with AMD Neo processor and the performance of  [...]

Samsung Q330 – Great balance of speed and battery life

Samsung Q330 – Great balance of speed and battery life
You have to be really careful while making notebooks; they need to have the correct balance of power and battery life. Faster computers have small battery life where as the ones with plenty of battery juice is relatively slower. One such laptop which balances the speed and battery life really well is the Samsung Q330. Cost of this laptop is £600 and if you think there are big compromises done in order to keep the price low, you are wrong. The body is made of plastic and the brushed metallic finish gives it a high end look. This laptop weighs just two kilograms so you won’t have any problems carrying it around. The rear part of the Q330 is thicker than the front end and this is done to give good ergonomics while typing for long hours. Samsung Q330 has great build quality and this gives you a secure feeling when you carry it. I tried to test the screen and was glad to see that there are no ripples on the screen unless I pressed on it really hard. There are no cheap  [...]

Gateway LT3201u – Step up Netbook

Gateway LT3201u – Step up Netbook
When it comes to Netbooks, the specifications are pretty much fixed now and you also get all the basic functionality that you’d yearn for in a computer. Components in standard Netbooks include ten inch screen, Intel Atom N450 processor, Windows 7 Starter, and 1 GB RAM. The price too is really affordable at $299 and it is good as long as you limit the tasks to basic things like Websurfing and typing. But there have been a lot of Netbooks which try to give something better than the standard specs list but also cost a bit more. Gateway LT3201u is one such Netbook. It has an 11.6 inch screen with AMD Athlon Neo II K125 CPU. The processor is single core but the performance of a Neo processor is believed to be better than the Atom ones. I conducted a few lab tests for this and found that it was indeed true. The Gateway LT3201u also features ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 graphics which is not a discrete graphics card but the performance is still better than those Intel graphics  [...]

BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard by Razer offers programmable and backlit keys
You got to love the way the way Razer names it products. This company has been working hard for the past three years for mechanical keyboards. They didn’t want to make those traditional keyboards which give you a feeling of fatigue during long hours of typing. The latest products from Razer - BlackWidow Ultimate and BlackWidow provide a solution to this problem, to some extent. These two keyboards were launched yesterday at Gamescom and the company says that the buttons pressing experience is similar to that of a mouse click. This keyboard is made for gamers who get frustrated when they miss even a single keystroke. The best part about this keyboard is that it offers a set of programmable keys which can be used to launch any applications of your choice. There are also five dedicated keys for gaming and the Ultimate edition gives you five levels of backlighting, a USB port and 3.5 mm jacks for both microphone and audio. ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC dumps the Windows Embedded Compact 7 and goes for Android

ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC dumps the Windows Embedded Compact 7 and goes for Android
Asus announced two Eee Pad tablets at Computex this year and amongst the two, the EP101TC is getting redesigned software to keep up with the technology updates. The device is going to be launched somewhere in 2011 and there is a lot of hard work being put in to make this project a successful one. This device was thought to run on Microsoft’s Windows Embedded Compact 7 which is a good OS but Asus has dumped it for Google Android. Right now, Asus is working on the prototypes with Froyo but the company hasn’t ruled out using Android 3.0 aka Gingerbread. The device will be shown at CES 2011 first and Asus will then reveal the launch date. We are really exicted to see what these Eee pads have to offer in the tablet market which is dominated by Apple’s iPad and Dell Streak. The former is doing quite well in the market and the sales have been really impressive. The iPad is still selling like hot cakes even though it has been months since the device was first released in the market. 0 comments

Asus’s new notebooks to have the Boston-Power’s Sonata li-ion batteries

Asus’s new notebooks to have the Boston-Power’s Sonata li-ion batteries
We have heard about the Boston-Power's Sonata lithium-ion batteries before, they were there on HP notebooks and HP had a monopoly over it until now. These batteries are now there on Asus’s new B series of notebooks too. Asus has announced just two laptops for this family – the B43 and B53. They come in different screen sizes of 14.1 inches and 15.6 inches respectively. There is plenty to choose from for the hardware of these laptops but we will talk about the batteries first. What is so special about the Boston-Power's Sonata lithium-ion batteries? If you are expecting longer battery life, you will be disappointed because the battery juice provided here is the same as other laptops. But these batteries come with a three year warranty from the manufacturer and they are supposed to retain eight percent of its capacity during that three year period. We haven’t tested these batteries yet and so we cannot tell if the claims are true or not.

Dell brings Precision M6500 laptop having 32GB RAM

Dell brings Precision M6500 laptop having 32GB RAM
Yes, it is indeed 32 GB RAM. You might think why does one need 32GB RAM? We too were scratching our heads about it. But it turns out that Dell’s mail box is flooded with requests from customers asking for more RAM and the company has decided to take care of it now. The 32 GB RAM is coming along with M6500s and it has four slots for RAM. So it is not that difficult to achieve as one would expect. This increased RAM is for professionals like graphic designers who need faster notebooks to work with. But in case you don’t need this much RAM, the Dell Precision M6500 is still there in the market with 16 GB of RAM. Dell has given so much memory for its precision lineup because these notebooks are made for high end professional users. On the lower side, you have the Studio laptops where you can customize the notebook according to your needs. You can choose what components you want and thus control the price. There is Inspiron line up too which contains a lot of 13-15 inch travel friendly  [...]

Dell Streak – Tablet or cellphone?

Dell Streak – Tablet or cellphone?
Gadgets are getting quite versatile these days and they are including as many features as they can in order to lure a wide range of customers. First there was the cell phone which included camera and music player. Now there is this Dell Streak; it is supposed to compete with the Apple’s iPad. The feature set is the same as the iPad and the Streak can make calls too. There is also a five megapixel camera for taking great pictures as well as a front facing camera for video calling. Dell gave me its latest product – the Dell Streak in my labs for testing. I was quite perplexed initially, about this gadget. It took a bit of time for me to get a hang of this device since I have never seen anything like this before. I had read about it in the newspapers before device was released but testing it physically was an altogether different affair. I am still hesitating to call the Dell Streak a tablet because of the size. The Streak is somewhere between a tablet and a cell  [...]

HP Mini 210-1199DX – Attractive looks, great touch pad-keyboard combo

HP Mini 210-1199DX – Attractive looks, great touch pad-keyboard combo
This laptop might look really sexy but let me tell you that it only has a handful of hardware upgrades inside. The price of this product is $379; you are paying more for the price and not the internal components. As compared to other Netbooks, the HP Mini 210-1199DX costs $80 more and for the extra price, you get a same capacity but faster 7,200 rpm hard disk and 802.11n Wi-Fi. The computer is powered by N455 Intel Atom processor which is essentially the same as the N450 one. The only exception here is that the N455 supports DDR3 RAM. There is a pink tartan pattern on the touch pad and the lid. I would recommend this Netbook for people who value looks and are willing to spend more bucks for it. HP's current series of Netbooks have the best touch pad and keyboard combo and if you are going to type for a long time, these computers are heavily recommended. The most attractive feature regarding the design is the pink color of the Netbook. I dont know how the men will take  [...]
